About
Skippered sailing charters on the Gippsland Lakes from Paynesville aboard the 34-foot yacht Calypso, from two-hour sails to six-hour island trips.
Service area: Gippsland Lakes, East Gippsland
Sail Safari has run sailing charters on the Gippsland Lakes for 25 years from Paynesville. Each booking takes the whole yacht for two, four or six hours, with options including a sail to Spermwhale Head for a walk, longer outings towards Ninety Mile Beach, Loch Sport or Metung, and a canal cruise followed by a sail across Lake Victoria to Rotamah Island.
The boat is Calypso, a 34-foot fractional-rigged yacht designed by Robb Legg, whose drop keel lets her reach the shallow corners of the lakes. Every trip is run by a qualified, locally based skipper, and Calypso takes up to 11 passengers and can also be booked for stay-aboard nights.
Families, backpackers and school and youth groups are welcome, and full-day Sailing4Kids and Sailing4Teens holiday programs run for ages 7 to 17. Life jackets are provided for adults and children. Surcharges apply on Sundays and public holidays, and off-season concession discounts are offered, so ask when you book.
