Sydney Harbour sailing aboard Southwinds, a 1950 Huon pine classic yacht run by Manly Sailing, with harbour cruises, hands-on sails and private charters.
Manly · NSW · 0 reviewed vessels
Southwinds is a classic timber yacht designed by Sir Robert Clarke and built in 1950, with Huon pine planking on spotted gum frames and a teak deck. She is owned and managed by Manly Sailing, which runs a sailing school and watersports centre from Manly Yacht Club. Cruises depart Rowntree's Wharf at Barangaroo and Manly Sailing, and other pick-ups can be arranged.
The public program includes a two-hour luxury harbour cruise, a 2.5-hour Try Yachting sail where guests help sail the boat, and a harbour sail with dinner at a Manly Cove beach. Southwinds also takes private charters of two hours or more, sail-and-stay overnights, corporate events and photo shoots, and Manly Sailing offers learn-to-sail courses, kids' programs and boat licence courses.
It suits people who want the feel of a traditional wooden yacht, small groups on shared sails, and anyone keen to try hands-on sailing. Guest numbers differ by experience, so check the cap and departure wharf when booking.
