Keep exploring
Fingal Boat Harbour brings day boaters close to one of the Tweed Coast’s most scenic corners. The compact public harbour and ramp serve fishing and recreational crews against a beautiful headland backdrop.
Public launching infrastructure and nearby amenities support straightforward outings, particularly for trailered and smaller craft.
Explore the lower Tweed River, fish the estuary or enjoy Fingal’s beaches and headland while retaining the area’s laid-back coastal feel.

Dangar Island sits in the lower Hawkesbury River close to Brooklyn and is one of Sydney’s small, boat‑access communities. From the water it reads as a wooded, low island with sandy foreshore, a public jetty and private moorings; its position at the mouth of Cowan Creek and close to the main river channel makes it an attractive short‑cruise destination for trailer sailors, runabouts and small cruisers but also one that requires careful local knowledge and respect for resident berths, ferry operations and tidal currents.
Plan as a chain of conservative daily legs tied to your boat’s real-world fuel and speed in the expected sea state, with confirmed primary and alternate anchorages/berths, fuel legs and back-up fuel options, and a documented emergency/diversion plan (comms, tow and med-evac). Build tidal and weather gates into each leg and carry chart and comms redundancy.
Explore →Maybe — it depends. In NSW you often need registration and a boat operator licence for motorised vessels, but many small trailerable sailing dinghies without engines don’t require boat registration or a licence. Check the specific rules for your craft, trailer and engine.
Explore →Plan to transit Sydney Heads and northern NSW estuary entrances to take advantage of favourable tidal streams or slack water; account for local acceleration over shoals, eddies, wind-on-current effects and river discharge, and always check the latest local observations and tide/stream products before departure.
Explore →Expect the usual IALA-B lateral system (red and green), cardinal and isolated-danger marks, safe-water and special marks, plus harbour-specific fairway buoys, leading/transit marks and exclusion or speed‑limit buoys. Check local harbour charts and Notices to Mariners for exact positions and light characteristics before entry.
