“Had Dom come and do a pre-purchase survey on a Meridian 341. Excellent communication prior to, during and post inspection. Dom suggested we have a Cummins mechanic also join us for the inspection which turned out to be extremely valuable advice! Dom's report was clear and concise and easy for the lay-man to understand. I will definitely be calling Onward Marine Survey for any future inspections I require.”
“Onward Marine was a pleasure to deal with. Dom contacted us before the survey to chk that everything was on track. He turned up at the slipping when he said he would. The survey process went smoothly and he supplied the survey report very promptly afterwards. The cost was in line with what I've heard others are charging. I'm very hapy to recommend this business to my friends. Rod - SV Dawn's Light.”

“Highly recommend Dom at Onward Marine. He fit us in with short notice and worked around our schedule, and completed our 5-year insurance survey at The Boat Works in Coomera. The survey was extremely thorough and professional as there was in and out of water aspects, and he took the time to explain everything clearly. The whole process was efficient and hassle-free, and it was obvious he has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Thanks again, Dom, we really appreciate the excellent service.”
“Dom at Onward Marine completed a survey on our boat for insurance. He was punctual, professional, and easy to deal with. I highly recommend Onward Marine”
Comprehensive cruising guide to the island group in the Tasman Sea east of the New South Wales coast, describing lagoon and outer-reef sailing, seasonal winds and swell, moorings and visitor procedures, anchorages, approach notes, facilities ashore, local hazards, marine park rules and suggested sailing experiences for sailors of varying experience.
Expect very different seasonal systems across Western Australia: the south‑west (Perth to Albany) has a strong summer afternoon sea breeze (the “Fremantle Doctor”) and winter westerly fronts, while northern WA follows a wet/dry monsoonal cycle with strong seasonal onshore winds, thunderstorms and cyclone risk in the wet season. Local headlands, estuaries and tidal flows often change what you actually feel on the water, so learn the local timing and sheltered venues first.
Explore →Expect the usual IALA-B lateral system (red and green), cardinal and isolated-danger marks, safe-water and special marks, plus harbour-specific fairway buoys, leading/transit marks and exclusion or speed‑limit buoys. Check local harbour charts and Notices to Mariners for exact positions and light characteristics before entry.
Explore →Legal safety equipment for recreational boats in South Australia depends on the type, size and where you operate; you must check the current SA government requirements for your vessel. Independently of legal minimums, carry a sensible set of recommended items (lifejackets, means of communication, signaling, fire protection, anchor and basic tools) and make them usable and maintained.
Explore →Progress gradually by increasing exposure, practising specific skills, sailing with more experienced crew/skippers, and deliberately training for each new step—start in calm sheltered bays, then move to longer trips, busier waters, stronger winds and finally open coastal passages when you and your crew are consistently competent and comfortable.
Explore →A practical guide to preparing, planning and executing a recreational offshore passage along the New South Wales coast. Covers route selection, weather and tidal considerations, vessel and crew checks, safety equipment, communication, watchkeeping and common mistakes, with clear pre‑departure and underway checklists.
Explore →Practical guidance for recreational sailors in New South Wales on navigating marine parks, using moorings and anchoring responsibly. Covers how to plan passages, approach moorings, set and retrieve an anchor, minimise environmental impact and follow local rules.
Explore →A concise, practical guide for recreational sailors in New South Wales that explains southerly busters, sea breezes and east coast lows, how they form, how they affect coastal sailing, common signs to watch for, equipment and preparation, and clear next steps to plan safer outings.
