Definition
A close reach lies between close hauled and a beam reach, with the true wind roughly 60 to 80 degrees off the bow. Sheets are eased a little from the close hauled setting and the sails carry a fuller shape. It is often the fastest and most comfortable point of sail for a cruising yacht, since the rig is well loaded without the leeway, heel and slamming associated with beating.
