A company story that began aboard
Water Makers Australia’s owner, Kalim, describes the original system as a family project developed with his father-in-law, Stephen, for Stephen’s own boat on the Port Hacking River. It is a wonderfully relatable beginning: a real boat, a practical question and the determination to find an answer.
That starting point still shapes the company’s emphasis on understanding the owner’s needs. There is something reassuringly personal about a business whose story begins with the same kinds of questions many cruisers ask when planning their own boat.

A layout that respects the boat
The systems use a modular arrangement, allowing components such as membranes, pumps and filters to be positioned to suit the available space. Water Makers Australia also places emphasis on serviceable, readily available parts and access for maintenance.
For sailors, that way of thinking is easy to appreciate. Every locker already has a job, and equipment needs to fit into the wider life of the vessel. A conversation about power, freshwater demand and installation space can be just as valuable as comparing the units themselves.
A person at the other end of the conversation
Kalim says he handles most sales advice and technical support personally. The company offers support through selection, installation guidance and ongoing ownership, keeping the relationship connected to how the system is actually used.
That human element gives the technology a different feel. A watermaker is part of a bigger dream: more time exploring, more comfortable routines and more choice about when to return to shore. We are delighted to have Water Makers Australia helping bring that conversation into the YouSail community.
Thank you, Water Makers Australia, for supporting YouSail and the freedom to enjoy more of life afloat.
