The computed altitude follows from sin Hc equals sin latitude times sin declination plus cos latitude times cos declination times cos LHA, with declination signed negative when it is in the opposite hemisphere to the latitude. The azimuth angle comes from cos Z equals sin declination minus sin latitude times sin Hc, divided by cos latitude times cos Hc. A scientific calculator handles both directly, avoiding tables and assumed position rounding altogether.
