Definition
Determined by joining successive fixes on the chart and measuring the direction, expressed in degrees true. It differs from the course steered because of tidal stream, current, leeway and steering error, and comparing the two shows what allowance the next leg needs. On a GNSS display it appears as course over ground, though that is an instantaneous value while course made good is derived over a stated interval between fixes.
