Published by houses such as Imray, and by clubs and associations, these guides give aerial photographs, sketch plans, approach transits, anchoring advice, holding ground, shore facilities and local customs. They cover many small anchorages that official Sailing Directions ignore because they carry no commercial traffic. Because they are updated less frequently than official publications and their plans are not always survey grade, use them alongside the current chart rather than in place of it.
