Issued by the national licensing authority and programmed into AIS, DSC VHF and EPIRB equipment. The first three digits form the Maritime Identification Digits indicating flag state, for example 232 to 235 for the United Kingdom and 366 to 369 for the United States. Ship station numbers use the form MIDxxxxxx. Coast stations begin 00MID, group calls 0MID, and handheld or auxiliary craft numbers use distinct prefixes. Reprogramming normally requires dealer intervention.
