Definition
A compact working document prepared before entering confined waters, listing each leg in sequence with course to steer, distance, expected time, tidal height and stream, marks and lights expected with their characteristics, clearing bearings and abort points. Presented as a vertical ladder it can be read in the cockpit without returning to the chart table, which matters when the navigator is also helming. It should record the height of tide at the critical shallow point and the least expected under keel clearance.
