Definition
Range discrimination is governed by pulse length: two targets on the same bearing merge unless separated by more than half the pulse length in space. A 0.1 microsecond pulse occupies about thirty metres, giving roughly fifteen metres of separation capability, while a 1 microsecond pulse occupies three hundred metres and can only resolve targets about one hundred and fifty metres apart. Display resolution and spot size add a further practical limit.
