Definition
A bearing of a single object is taken, then after a measured run the same object is observed again. The first position line is advanced along the course steered for the distance run, allowing for tide and leeway, and its intersection with the second line gives the fix. Accuracy depends entirely on the quality of the run, so the interval should give a cut of at least about 30 degrees but not be so long that log and tidal errors dominate.
