Definition
Adopted by the IMO under SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 11 and detailed in the relevant Admiralty Sailing Directions and List of Radio Signals. Reports use standard formats with lettered fields, for example A for ship name and call sign, B for time, C or D for position and E and F for course and speed. Examples include mandatory reporting in the Dover Strait and Torres Strait. Voluntary schemes such as AMVER support search and rescue coordination.
