Definition
Entries are made at regular intervals and at every significant event, recording time, position with its source, course steered, log reading, speed, wind, barometric pressure, weather, sea state, engine hours and any change of watch or unusual occurrence. It is the primary evidence for reconstructing a dead reckoning position if electronics fail, and is a legal document in the event of an incident or insurance claim. Entries should be made in ink and never erased.
