Definition
A plot of surface observations reduced to a common time, showing isobars, fronts, highs and lows, and often plotted station circles giving wind, cloud, pressure and tendency. Analysis charts depict the observed situation; prognosis charts, labelled T plus 24, T plus 48 and so on, give forecast positions. Navigators use a sequence of charts to judge how systems are moving and deepening rather than reading any single chart in isolation.
