About Brent Vaughan
About Brent Vaughan
Brent Vaughan is the founder and director of Multihull Central, one of the South Pacific’s best-known specialist multihull brokerages. Based in Sydney, he brings together more than 25 years of marine-industry experience with a lifetime spent sailing, racing and working around catamarans.
Unlike someone who entered yacht sales from a purely commercial background, Brent’s connection with multihulls started on the water. He spent much of his childhood around Great Keppel Island, where sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing and scuba diving were simply part of life.
He began sailing Sabots at around eight years old before discovering the speed and excitement of beach catamarans. His progression included Arafura cats, Cobras and Nacras, followed by racing Olympic Tornados around Australia and later competing aboard F18 catamarans.
That racing background gave him an early appreciation for weight, sail area, hull shape, balance and the differences between a boat that simply looks fast and one that actually performs well on the water. Time aboard his uncle’s cruising yacht also introduced him to the other side of sailing: longer trips, practical cruising and the sense of freedom that comes with travelling under sail.
Marine-industry career
After completing a business degree with majors in Marketing and Tourism, Brent worked around Rosslyn Bay Marina in Queensland. This provided an early grounding in marina operations and the everyday realities of the boating industry.
He later joined Seawind Catamarans and became closely involved in the company’s sales and marketing. Brent helped lead Seawind’s sales during a major period of international growth, with particular success in the United States.
His work during that period was associated with several marine-industry marketing and export awards. It also gave him substantial exposure to international distribution, boat shows, factory relationships, new-model launches and the challenges of selling Australian-designed cruising catamarans into competitive overseas markets.
Brent went on to establish Multihull Central in 2013, bringing together a national team focused specifically on catamarans and trimarans. The company has since developed representation across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, with locations and brokers serving Sydney, Pittwater, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Nelson, Opua, Whangārei and Port Denarau.
Multihull sales and brokerage
Brent’s work covers both new and pre-owned multihulls. His experience is particularly relevant to people trying to compare different styles of catamaran, from comfortable production cruisers to lighter performance-oriented boats and specialist long-range designs.
The Multihull Central portfolio has included Seawind Catamarans, Corsair Trimarans, Longreach Catamarans, Outremer, Garcia Explocat and HH Catamarans, alongside a broad selection of pre-owned multihulls from other builders.
This gives Brent useful exposure to several very different design philosophies. Seawind sits in the practical performance-cruising category, Corsair focuses on fast and trailerable trimarans, Longreach offers long-range power catamarans, Outremer specialises in performance cruising, Garcia’s Explocat is designed around aluminium expedition cruising, and HH produces high-performance cruising catamarans using advanced composite construction.
For buyers, that breadth can help when comparing sailing performance, payload, bridge-deck clearance, helm protection, accommodation, build materials, systems, resale value and long-term cruising suitability.
For sellers, Brent’s marketing background is equally relevant. Multihull sales often require a more targeted approach than general boat brokerage because buyers may be interstate, overseas or searching for a very particular model. His experience includes positioning vessels for the correct market, reaching established multihull buyers and managing transactions where both the buyer and seller may be located in different regions.
New-yacht and factory experience
Brent has been closely involved with new catamaran orders, factory relationships, vessel specification, construction updates, delivery planning and owner handovers.
This is an important part of his profile because buying a new catamaran can be a long process. Owners may need to make decisions about layouts, sail plans, engines, electrical systems, solar capacity, navigation equipment, tender storage, safety gear and long-distance cruising options well before the boat is launched.
His history with Seawind has given him particularly strong familiarity with the brand’s cruising catamarans and their development over several generations. Multihull Central was named Seawind International Dealer of the Year in 2016, recognising the company’s sales performance and approach to the Australian market.
Brent has also been publicly involved in the expansion of HH Catamarans in Australia and New Zealand, including sailing and evaluating the HH50-SC in real conditions off the Gold Coast.
Offshore and delivery experience
Brent’s sailing experience is not limited to short races and demonstration sails. In 2026, he joined an 8.5-day delivery of the Seawind 1170 *Sweet Disposition* from Sydney to Auckland.
The passage covered approximately 1,248 nautical miles across the Tasman Sea, including mixed and at times challenging offshore conditions. The boat recorded an average speed of approximately 6.3 knots and a top speed of 16.6 knots during the delivery.
Experience like this adds useful real-world context when discussing whether a catamaran is genuinely suitable for offshore cruising. It provides first-hand insight into watchkeeping, weather strategy, reefing, crew comfort, autopilot performance, onboard systems and the way a relatively compact cruising catamaran behaves during a sustained bluewater passage.
Charter ownership and sailing pathways
Brent has also worked extensively with charter ownership programs. His public industry involvement includes helping owners place new vessels into charter fleets and explaining the financial, regulatory and operational considerations involved.
Through the wider Multihull Central group, buyers can explore different entry points into multihull sailing. These include outright ownership, pre-owned brokerage, new-boat orders, charter investment, sailing-school programs, boat membership and managed charter experiences.
This broader involvement means Brent’s work is not limited to completing a sale. It also touches on how an owner intends to use the boat, whether it will be privately cruised, placed into charter, used commercially or prepared for an extended sailing adventure.
Sailing media and education
Brent has written and contributed to articles about multihulls, cruising, charter ownership and the America’s Cup. Marine publications, including Club Marine, have drawn on his multihull knowledge for specialist commentary.
He is also the host of the *2 Hulls 1 Life* podcast, where he interviews sailors, designers and marine-industry figures about catamaran cruising, offshore passages, performance and boat ownership.
His other educational work includes boat tours, buyer guides, virtual sea trials, owner webinars and seminars covering subjects such as charter investment and choosing between different catamaran models.
Brent is also associated with *Seabbaticals*, a resource built around taking time away from everyday life to travel and cruise by boat.
What his experience means for buyers and sellers
For a multihull buyer, Brent’s strongest advantage is the combination of genuine catamaran sailing, racing, offshore experience, international brand knowledge and commercial brokerage experience.
He understands that choosing a multihull is rarely just about how many cabins it has. Sailing performance, payload, construction, helm position, visibility, sail handling, engine access, bridge-deck clearance, ventilation, storage, electrical capacity and resale demand can all make a major difference once the boat is being used regularly.
For sellers, his long involvement with specialist multihull marketing provides access to a network of buyers who already understand catamarans and may be searching for a particular model. This can be especially useful when selling a performance catamaran, an offshore-equipped cruising boat or a vessel with international appeal.
His background is particularly relevant when discussing Seawind catamarans, performance cruisers, offshore multihulls, charter-boat ownership and the practical journey from researching a yacht through to building, taking delivery, cruising and eventually reselling it.
