d’Albora Horizon Shores Marina is a complete boating destination on the protected waterways behind South Stradbroke Island. Welcoming monohulls, catamarans and houseboats up to approximately 25 metres, it combines casual and long-term berthing with a serious working boatyard and an exceptionally easygoing coastal setting.
For owners based in Brisbane or the Gold Coast, it is an ideal weekend launch point. Tipplers Passage, Jumpinpin and the southern Moreton Bay islands are right at the marina’s doorstep.
Power, water, controlled access and after-hours security support the wet berths, while the 24-hour fuel dock provides diesel, unleaded and premium fuel. The on-site boatyard features a 70-tonne travel lift, hardstand, enclosed refit sheds, forklifts, blasting facilities and flexible work areas for professional trades and owner projects.
Fully enclosed dry-stack storage, trailer-boat facilities, a public ramp, chandlery, bait and ice, and the Anchorage Café make the marina exceptionally capable for everything from a quick day on the water to a major refit. d’Albora’s network also adds broader member and booking benefits.
Tipplers Passage provides calm, scenic cruising behind South Stradbroke Island, with sandbanks, wildlife and sheltered anchorages shaping the local experience. The wider passage connects naturally to the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and the southern Moreton Bay islands.
Jacobs Well and Woongoolba are close for local supplies and relaxed coastal dining, while Brisbane and the Gold Coast are both within easy driving distance. The marina’s protected setting and comprehensive services make it a standout base for year-round boating.

Apollo Bay is a small working harbour on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road where sheltered inshore sailing meets the Southern Ocean. The character is a mix of protected harbour berths and an exposed open coast: pleasant day-sails and sheltered weekend cruising inside the bay, with demanding coastal passages immediately offshore where south‑westerly swell and strong winds from the Southern Ocean dominate. It suits coastal cruisers, trailer sailors who launch at the ramp, and experienced coastal sailors who understand bar and swell behaviour; it is not a casual open‑ocean anchorage for unprepared or
Plan passages across Spencer Gulf or to Kangaroo Island by basing fuel on your boat’s actual consumption plus a generous reserve, choosing sensible staging/stop options that match your boat and crew, and prioritising shelter and weather windows (gale fronts, strong winds and tidal streams can make the gulf uncomfortable or unsafe). Confirm fuel availability, safe anchorages or marinas on your route, and check up-to-date local weather, tide and navigation information before you go.
Explore →Plan as a chain of conservative daily legs tied to your boat’s real-world fuel and speed in the expected sea state, with confirmed primary and alternate anchorages/berths, fuel legs and back-up fuel options, and a documented emergency/diversion plan (comms, tow and med-evac). Build tidal and weather gates into each leg and carry chart and comms redundancy.
