Definition
Convergency is the angle between the meridians through two positions, approximated for navigational purposes by difference of longitude multiplied by the sine of the mean latitude. It explains why the final great circle course differs from the initial one, and half convergency is applied when converting a radio great circle bearing to a mercatorial bearing for plotting. At 60 degrees mean latitude, 20 degrees of longitude gives about 17 degrees of convergency.
