Definition
The third stage, beginning with the decision on when to sail and continuing as the plan is carried out in the light of the actual forecast, tidal information, traffic density, visibility and machinery status. Execution covers choosing a departure time to meet a tidal gate, adjusting speed to arrive in daylight or at slack water, and formally amending the plan when a leg becomes unsafe. Amendments should be recorded rather than improvised silently on watch.
