Definition
Spoofing transmits counterfeit signals that a receiver accepts as genuine, producing a plausible but wrong position or time; unlike jamming, the display looks perfectly healthy. Warning signs include a position jumping to a distant location, GNSS speed disagreeing with the log, heading conflicting with the compass, or the clock stepping. Cross-checking against radar ranges, visual transits and depth remains the only reliable defence on most yachts.
