Definition
Pan-Pan, spoken three times, precedes an urgency message concerning the safety of a vessel or a person where immediate assistance is not required, such as engine failure in open water, a broken rudder under tow, or a crew member needing medical advice. It ranks below distress but above all other traffic. A medical advice request may be qualified as Pan-Pan Medico, and DSC urgency alerting is available on channel 70.
