Definition
A charted area, often shown by a magenta circle labelled Pilots or by a dedicated buoy, where the pilot launch or helicopter meets arriving vessels. Ports publish the boarding position, the notice required, the VHF channel and any alternative bad-weather position. The vessel is expected to arrive at the agreed time, make a lee, reduce to a manageable transfer speed of typically five to eight knots, and hold a steady course while the pilot transfers.
