Definition
The second stage, in which the appraised route is laid off on the largest suitable charts as a continuous berth-to-berth track. Each leg receives a course, a distance, an expected speed and a running time, while waypoints, no-go areas, clearing bearings, abort points, tidal gates, reporting points and contingency anchorages are marked. Charted depths are compared against draught plus the required under-keel clearance, and chart and publication references are noted so the work can be checked.
