Definition
A radar SART lies dormant until triggered by an X-band radar in the 9 GHz band, then sweeps a response that appears on the interrogating display as a line of twelve blips extending outward from its position, spaced 0.64 nautical miles apart. As the searching unit closes, the blips widen into arcs and then circles. Detection range from a ship is about five miles and considerably more from a search aircraft.
