Definition
Securite, pronounced say-cure-i-tay and spoken three times, introduces a safety message about navigation or meteorological warnings, for example an unlit buoy off station, a container adrift, gale warnings or a large vessel manoeuvring in a narrow channel. The announcement is made on channel 16 and the message itself is then passed on a working channel to keep the distress frequency clear. It has the lowest of the three priorities.
