Definition
The dominant regime around north-west Europe, driven principally by the M2 constituent with a period of 12 hours 25.2 minutes, so successive high waters occur about 12 h 25 m apart and the pattern advances roughly 50 minutes per day. Successive highs are of similar height because the diurnal constituents are weak relative to the semi-diurnal ones. Most UK and Atlantic European ports are classified as semi-diurnal.
