Definition
Set is expressed in degrees true and always names the direction the water is going to, in direct contrast to wind, which is named for the direction it comes from. A stream setting 270 true carries the vessel westward. Set is read from tidal stream atlases, from tidal diamonds on the chart with their hourly tables referred to a standard port high water, or from electronic tidal prediction, and it is interpolated between spring and neap columns.
