Definition
Set is quoted as the true direction toward which the water moves, the opposite convention to wind, which is named from where it blows. Drift, or rate, is in knots, or occasionally as a distance in nautical miles over a stated interval. In the estimated position triangle, the water track and boat speed are laid off from the dead reckoning start and the tidal vector applied to give the ground track.
