Definition
Distance equals speed multiplied by time, speed equals distance divided by time, and time equals distance divided by speed, with speed in knots, distance in nautical miles and time in hours. Convert minutes by dividing by sixty. A useful mental shortcut is that speed in knots divided by ten gives distance in nautical miles covered in six minutes, so at 7 knots a vessel runs 0.7 nautical miles every six minutes.
