Definition
A convergence zone showing as a band of ripples, smooth water, foam or accumulated weed and flotsam, often marking a boundary between water masses of differing density, temperature or direction of flow. Useful visually as evidence of stream direction and of eddy boundaries, and often a productive fishing mark. Crossing one can bring an abrupt change in sea state, apparent wind and the vessel's steering behaviour.
