Definition
A hot start, where the receiver retains valid ephemeris and a good time and position estimate, can fix within a few seconds. A warm start needs fresh ephemeris and typically takes around thirty seconds or so. A cold start after a long lay-up, a flat backup battery or a large geographical move requires almanac collection and may take several minutes. Poor sky view or a shaded antenna lengthens all three.
