Definition
Under the data protection scheme each encrypted cell requires a permit tied to the specific installation's unique identifier and carrying a subscription expiry date. Permits are supplied as a file that is installed before or with the data. If a permit expires the cell stops receiving updates and the system flags the chart as out of date, so permit renewal dates belong in the vessel's planned maintenance routine, not in the pre-departure rush.
