Definition
The title block carries the chart's name, scale, projection, the horizontal datum (typically WGS84 on modern charts), the vertical datum for soundings, the units of depth and height, and the source of survey data. Notes alongside warn of hazards, restricted areas and radio reporting requirements. Always read it before plotting: a chart quoting soundings in fathoms or feet, or positions on a local datum, will mislead a navigator who assumes metres and WGS84.
