Definition
If the compass bearing of an approaching vessel does not appreciably change while the range closes, the two vessels are on converging tracks that intersect at the same time. Take successive hand-bearing compass readings on a fixed part of the target, or use a shroud or stanchion as a fixed sightline. Radar equivalents are a zero or small CPA and a steady relative-motion trail pointing at own ship. A large vessel or a tow can still be dangerous despite some bearing drift.
