Definition
An RNC is a georeferenced digital facsimile of the official paper chart, identical in appearance and content, and carrying the same datum and units as the printed original. The computer cannot interrogate individual features, so no automatic anti-grounding checking is possible. Where ENC coverage does not exist, an ECDIS may operate in raster mode, but only when supported by an appropriate folio of up-to-date paper charts for the area.
