Definition
Admiralty routeing charts, and the equivalent United States pilot charts, present one sheet per ocean per month showing wind roses with percentage frequency and force, mean surface currents in knots, ice limits, tropical storm tracks, fog and air and sea temperatures, plus recommended routes and great circle distances between main ports. They express climatological averages, not forecasts, and are used for seasonal planning rather than day-to-day decisions.
