Definition
S-63 encrypts ENC cells so they can only be decrypted by equipment holding a valid permit, and provides digital signatures that authenticate the data source and prove it has not been corrupted in transit. Each installation has a unique user permit derived from its hardware identifier, which the chart supplier uses to issue cell permits with defined expiry dates. An expired permit stops updates and eventually stops the chart displaying.
