Marinas & boatyards
Find practical information about buying, delivering and checking fuel for recreational boats around Australia. Compare 112 reviewed businesses, local coverage and customer feedback.
Marine fuel suppliers deliver the petrol or diesel that powers recreational boats, runabouts, cruisers and small commercial tenders. This page explains when and why you’d use a fuel supplier, what a good refuel looks like, and the practical checks to make before you book a delivery or fill up at a marina bowser. Refuelling isn’t just about topping the tank. It’s about fuel type, cleanliness, safe handling and access. Fuel quality — free of water, debris and microbial growth — directly affects engine reliability. Suppliers can provide fuel dock bowsers, truck or barge delivery to a swung vessel, and sometimes fuel testing, filtration or polishing services. What’s available depends on where you are: city marinas, regional boatyards and remote anchorages offer very different options. If you’ve never hired a marine fuel supplier, this page gives the practical questions to ask and the steps to follow so you get the right grade in the right condition, safely. It also outlines common warning signs of contamination and what to expect immediately after refuelling. Because rules, infrastructure and costs vary around Australia, the aim here is to help you evaluate providers and make an informed booking rather than to list specific businesses or prices.

Marine fuel suppliers provide the fuel and the equipment to move it into your boat safely. That can mean a bowser on a marina fuel pontoon, a truck drive-on service that pumps fuel up a pontoon, or a barge that comes alongside anchored boats. Some suppliers also offer fuel testing, filtration, or fuel polishing to remove water and contaminants before or after delivery.
Suppliers typically handle safety, spill prevention and, where required, paperwork for the delivery. Their role is to supply the correct grade, document the quantity delivered and minimise environmental risk during transfer.
Costs and services vary widely with location, delivery method and fuel grade. Remote or barge deliveries are typically more complex than a marina bowser fill. Local rules and practical access needs differ between states, marinas and remote anchorages, so allow time to confirm access, permissions and any additional requirements before booking.
