Marinas & boatyards
This page helps sailors choose the right wet or dry storage, understand what’s involved and what to check before you book. Compare 78 reviewed businesses, local coverage and customer feedback.
Boat storage covers a wide range of options — from a covered marina berth where your boat stays afloat, to hardstand or cradle storage on land, to trailer parking for weekend boats. Different types suit different vessels and needs: liveaboard cruisers often need a regular berth with shore power and access, racer-owners might prefer short-term hardstand for rigging and tuning, and trailer-boat owners need secure, accessible parking that fits their launch routine.
Choosing the right storage depends on boat size, hull type and how often you use the boat. Shore access, tidal range and the yard’s lifting gear determine whether a particular yard can lift your keelboat safely; roofed or undercover facilities affect sun and salt exposure; and hardstand surfaces and blocking procedures determine whether the hull is supported correctly while ashore.
A good storage provider makes the process straightforward and safe. They’ll explain haul-out and launch arrangements, lifting and cradle capacity, what’s included (security, power, water, mast‑stepping, basic checks) and what costs extra (antifouling, engineered cradles, long-term shrink-wrap). They should also outline any local environmental or slipway rules you need to follow. Before you commit, check access hours, insurance requirements, seasonal availability and how they store boats similar to yours. Detailed, practical questions avoid surprises at handover and help protect your boat while it’s off the water.

Choosing the right boat storage comes down to matching your vessel, intended use and budget with a yard that can lift, support and protect the boat correctly. Asking practical, specific questions and getting clear written terms before handover reduces risk and helps the yard look after your boat while it’s off the water.
